Today the fun of the unexpected discovery in art land: By complete happy coincidence I was able to experience a James Turrell @jamesturell total color light immersion piece titled Akhob on a trip to Vegas. Of all places this piece is hidden on the 4th floor above Louis Vuitton in the Crystals Shopping Center at Aria in Vegas The light installation is named after the Egyptian word for “pure water” - perfect for a piece in what was once a desert. This is one of Turrell's Ganzfeld installations and it is much like experiencing a fog made of light. 20 minutes of being bathed in light and altered perception I was far removed from the crazy strip in Vegas. Make the time ( and a viewing appointment ) if you are in that part of the world.
From Turrell's Website: Turrell creates a similar experience of “Ganzfeld”: a German word to describe the phenomenon of the total loss of depth perception as in the experience of a white-out.
